December 29, 2024

On December 29, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held the “Dharma Protector Dedication of Merits Service,” welcoming over 200 participants in-person and online. The event honored the dedication and unwavering support of Dharma protectors, whose contributions have been instrumental in advancing the temple’s mission throughout the year.

Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Dharma protectors, emphasizing that their steadfast support enabled the temple to focus on spreading the Dharma and fostering spiritual growth. She encouraged attendees to diligently cultivate their practice and incorporate Humanistic Buddhist principles into their daily lives, inspiring others through their actions. Quoting Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teaching, “As long as you are alive, you must stay active,” the Abbess highlighted the importance of engaging in meaningful activities that connect more people to the Dharma.

During her Dharma lecture after the service, Venerable Chueh Fan presented the video report, “A Year of Mutual Growth and Prosperity: 2024 Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Annual Report,” which highlighted the temple’s achievements over the past year. Together with the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter, the temple organized 189 events and activities (excluding classes and meetings), showcasing the collective dedication to promoting Humanistic Buddhism.

Abbess also emphasized the global impact of BLIA’s five million members, whose efforts serve as a purifying force for humanity. She reminded attendees of the transformative power of their contributions and encouraged volunteers to continue developing innovative activities that guide others toward discovering life’s deeper meaning. Through collective dedication, she noted, even those unaware of their spiritual needs could gradually come to understand the Dharma’s essence.

In her closing remarks, the Abbess shared Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s New Year blessing, “Keep going! The future is bright,” urging participants to carry forward the teachings of Humanistic Buddhism. She called on everyone to apply these principles in their daily lives and work together to expand the Dharma’s reach, fostering a brighter future for all.
