On the afternoon of March 10th, the 1, 2, and 3 Markham subchapters of the Buddha’s Light International Association Toronto Chapter came together to organize a "2024 Spring Members Gathering" at the Markham Buddha's Light Centre. The event invited Guiding Monastic Ven. ManLong, Treasurer of the BLIA Toronto Candy Huang, Director of the BLIA TorontoBetty Young, subchapter presidents Carmen Li, and Agnes So. Nearly 100 members, their families, and guests attended.
The presidents of the three subchapters delivered speeches respectively. President of Subchapter 1, Julisa Szu, thanked everyone for their participation and appreciated the hardwork of the volunteers. He looked forward to continued cooperation in the new year to uphold the compassionate spirit imparted by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. President of subchapter 2, Ali Lau, emphasized that the cooperation of volunteers embodies positive energy and echoes the motto of BLIA. President of the subchapter 3, Katherine Li, thanked everyone for their support at the FGSTemple of Toronto Lunar New Year event and hoped to encourage more family and friends to participate.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including a screening of a short film showcasing the subchapter's booth at the Temple Lunar Chinese New Year event and captivating performances by talented members.
The performances by brothers Wellesley and Kingsley were spectacular, capturing the audiences attention. Wellesley solved a Rubik's Cube in just 1 minute and 5 seconds, while Kingsley created a "Harmonious Society" puzzle with 2048 Lego pieces, earning enthusiastic applause from everyone.
Interactive games and prize giveaways added an element of fun and excitement to the gathering, with lucky winners receiving auspicious red envelopes and happy prizes.
During the"Singing Praises" session led by Ven. Man Long, the subchapter committees took the stage to sing songs such as "We Are All Buddha's LightMembers," "Song of Ten Cultivations” and "May the Buddha BlessYou," which filled the audience with joyfulness.
Ven. Man Long mentioned that March 10th marks the anniversary of Venerable Master Hsing Yun'sordination. Life is full of changes, and the master teaches us about aging, sickness, and death, followed by rebirth, so there is no need to fear the challenge of life. Ven. Man Long encouraged continued practicing Humanistic Buddhism for a happy and peaceful life.
The event concluded with awards presented to outstanding members, lucky prize draws, and a delightful refreshment prepared by volunteers and members.
