Once again, in the spring of 2023 the North York subchapters 1 and 2 of the BLIA Toronto Chapter, members came together to donate food to the "North York Harvest Food Bank". On May 5th, the food that had been collected for half a month was sorted and boxed by directors and volunteers of the subchapters. The food bank came to collect the donations which totaled over 1,350 pounds of food.
Grace Lee, president of the North York subchapter, said that the food collection started on April 20th and ended on May 4th. Thanks to the support of BLIA members who donated food and drop them to the Buddha's Light Center Markham; the total weight of food raised for the Harvest Food Bank was double over the past year. There were beans, various kinds of vegetarian canned food, Italian pasta, oatmeal, rice, oil, etc. All of which were urgently needed by the food bank.
Henry, the director of North York Harvest Food Bank, indicated that "the Food bank distributes about 10 pounds per person of food each time. The Main reason for this is that the majority of people who receive the food come by city bus, so small and diverse food packages are easier for those in need to manage.”
