BLIA Toronto Richmond Hill Subchapters Host Seminar on Handling Traffic Accidents

On January 4, 2025, the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Richmond Hill 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Subchapters hosted a seminar titled "Howto Respond When a Traffic Accident Occurs?" at the Markham Buddha’s Light Centre. The event featured guest speaker Annabelle Lui, an Ontario lawyer and alumna of the Fo Guang Toronto Youth Academy. Over 70 members attended,eager to gain practical knowledge on handling traffic accidents effectively.

Annabelle analyzed two real-life cases to illustrate how different responses can significantly impact accident outcomes. She explained that handling an accident may involve multiple areas of law, including criminal, provincial highway traffic, civil, and immigration law, all of which can affect legal consequences and personal interests.

To equip attendees with essential preparedness, Annabelle outlined 11 keysteps to take after an accident—from staying calm and assessing the situation to navigating legal procedures. She emphasized the importance of vigilance, adaptability, and sound judgment to ensure personal safety and minimize losses.

During the Q&A session, participants actively engaged by sharing experiences and asking questions. Annabelle responded with humor and insight, integrating Buddhist wisdom to encourage mindfulness in emergencies. She advised attendees to recite the Buddha’s name to maintain composure and reminded them that “where there is Dharma, there is a way.”
