On the afternoon of December 18th, BLIA Toronto Richmond Hill Subchapter 1, 2, and 3 jointly held the 2022 Annual General Meeting and Birthday Celebration for their members at Markham BLC. Nearly 70 people attended the event, including Venerable Miao Tsun, the guiding venerable of the subchapters, Monica Kong, the secretary general of BLIA, and other BLIA Toronto Board of Directors.
The presidents of the three subchapters delivered speeches to welcome the members and introduced the newly elected 2023-2024 subchapter presidents and committee members. They also respectfully invited Venerable Miao Tsun to issue the committee members' election certificates.
The three subchapters shared different topics: 1. How to cope with the post-pandemic time? 2. How to have a happier life? 3. The journey of being a volunteer in the temple. All members participated enthusiastically, talking about their experiences and giving valuable opinions.
When sharing the summary of the discussion, President Tik Ming Lam said that members hope to have member-care events, outdoor activities, and Buddhist lectures. Hearing the needs of our members is very important. The subchapters plan to enhance mutual understanding through tea gatherings, book clubs, and birthday parties. President Peyton Kong shared that we have to know how to let go, not being attached, to help people reduce worries and provide positive energy. When the people around you are happy, you can feel the real happiness among the crowd. President Grace Ho reminded everyone that volunteers in the process of serving the public, cultivate themselves at the same time. As a volunteer bodhisattva. She encouraged all to participate more in volunteer work.
Venerable Miao Tsun pointed out that the establishment of BLIA and its development over the past 30 years are driven by "Wisdom and Innovation". The promotion of Buddhism needs to keep pace with wisdom and innovation, and keep pace with the times.
The general meeting was followed by a wonderful birthday celebration for 33 members whose birthdays were between September and December. Venerable Miao Tsun prayed for birthday members with the "Birthday Prayer" written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Then, she handed out the birthday gift boxes, followed by birthday cake and refreshments. The scene was very warm and touching. All the attendees are looking forward to seeing each other again in the Chinese New Year Celebration event.
