From November 1 to November 3, the 6th Meadowvale Scout Group (Buddha’s Light Toronto Scouts) gathered at the historic Blue Spring Scout Camp near Milton for a memorable fall camp. Designed to develop outdoor skills and promote teamwork, the event was organized by dedicated Scout leaders and enthusiastically attended by the scouts, leaving all participants with lasting memories.
Themed “World Peace,” the camp officially kicked off on the evening of November 1, bringing together 35 participants, including leaders, volunteers, and parents. Blue Spring Scout Camp offered a range of engaging activities that immersed scouts in nature and challenged them in meaningful ways. On the second day, the Scouts hiked to a wooden lookout tower, visited the Blue Spring waters, and tackled a series of obstacle course activities. Scout Leader Barry guided them in navigation skills using a compass and map, fostering both survival techniques and a spirit of teamwork and discipline. The Cub Scouts enjoyed a variety of activities, including hiking, outdoor exploration, and arts, and crafts, adding depth to their camp experience.
As night fell, everyone gathered around a warm campfire under a starlit sky. The Cub Scouts led songs and performed skits, while the Scouts presented a play on “World Peace” and sang “From a Distance,” a song symbolizing harmony and peaceful coexistence.
The two-night camp fostered resilience as the Scouts embraced the crisp autumn air, demonstrating determination and camaraderie. The Scouts guided new members in setting up and taking down tents, with Scouts Mason, Natalie, and Alfred taking responsibility for cleaning and drying the tents afterward. They prepared their own sandwiches, adding a sense of accomplishment to mealtime. At the camp’s conclusion, the Scouts took the initiative to keep the campsite spotless, cleaning shared areas, while the Cub Scouts checked their surroundings. These efforts exemplified the Three Acts of Goodness (Do Good Deeds, Speak Good Words, ThinkGood Thoughts) and the Four Givings, instilling discipline and responsibility.
In the camp’s closing “Scouts’ Own” ceremony, Scouter Joanna emphasized that peace begins with individual actions. She highlighted the importance of the Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings, inspiring the scouts to embody these values in their daily lives. The Cub Scouts then joined in singing an adapted version of “The More We Get Together,” dedicated to kindness and community, bringing the camp to a heartfelt conclusion.
This year’s Blue Spring Fall Camp allowed the scouts to connect with nature, build outdoor skills, and embrace the values of peace, kindness, and responsibility. Through their actions, they became advocates for peace, each contributing a positive force to the world.
