The Toronto Buddha’s Light Children Dharma Class started the 2023 Spring Term program at the Markham Campus on March 18th and Mississauga Campus on March 19th. A total of 43 students enrolled for the class. This demonstrates not only that Fo Guang people treasure the faith and legacy, but also the recognition of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Three Acts of Goodness” education.
This semester’s theme is "Compassion and Everlasting Happiness" from Master’s Dharma Words. The curriculum includes Buddhist etiquettes, stories on the “Three Acts of Goodness”, Sounds of the Human World, Arts and Craft, etc., educating with entertainment. There are junior and senior classes based on children’s ages. The junior class is for the 5-7 years old, and the senior class is for the 8-12 years old.
Although it was still cold and snowy, parents and their children arrived early at the Temple and Buddha's Light Center respectively. The Venerable, teachers, teacher’s assistants (TAs), and students formed a big circle as they got to know each other with laughter throughout the icebreaker games such as It’s All About You, Guess-Who, and the First Alphabet.
During the second half of the class, the students went for a "Dharma Hunt", which let the children familiarize themselves with the learning environment. The senior class also learned about Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the Founder of FGS through a short animated video. Teachers in Mississauga campus also gave the senior class a tour of the Buddha’s Cultural Museum.
At the end, Venerable Ruan and teachers led children to review the key points of the class, and chanted the Dedication of Merit.
