February 15, in a heartwarming Lunar NewYear celebration, 40 volunteers from the library unit of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the Fo Guang Dragon & Lion Dance Team visited Westminster Court Senior Residence, bringing festive cheer to 52 senior residents.
The event showcased a vibrant array of cultural performances, including lion and dragon dances, martial arts demonstrations, drumming, fan dancing, and Tai Chi. The energetic lion and dragon dances, symbolic of good fortune and prosperity, set the stage for an afternoon filled with joy and tradition.
Residents also enjoyed aspecial video highlighting Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto’s past-year activities and received auspicious red envelopes containing Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Dharma words, fostering a deeper connection with Humanistic Buddhism.
Adding to the festivities, seniors participated in an engaging English riddle game, with handcrafted calligraphy pieces of the Chinese character "福" (blessing) and spring couplets awarded as prizes. The celebration concluded with a sing-along of classic Lunar New Year songs and a lucky draw, creating moments of excitement and delight.
The visit strengthened the bond between the temple’s volunteer team, the Dragon & Lion Dance Team, and the Westminster Court community. Through cultural performances and warm interactions, seniors experienced the joy and rich traditions of the Lunar New Year, reinforcing the values of unity, compassion, and shared celebration.
