Fostering Community Unity: Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto's Active Support the Family Day Walkathon Fundraiser

March 3, 2024

The Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple of Toronto actively participates in and supports local charity initiatives. On the morning of March 3rd, 2024, Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan and Wilson Yau, representing the Buddhist community, attended the Muslim Community Family Day Walkathon fundraising event. During the event, Venerable Chueh Fan delivered an inspiring speech and generously donated $1,000 in sponsorship on behalf of FGS Toronto.

Venerable Chueh Fan commended the event for its exceptional ability to bring together diverse faith communities. She acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the Muslim community in their commitment to raising $5 million for the Trillium Health Partners Foundation. Highlighting Buddhist principles of familial bonds andself-awareness, she underscored the importance of nurturing the right views and mindfulness within ourselves. The Abbess noted that health encompasses not only physical well-being but also the vitality of our thoughts and spirits.

The Family Day Walkathon fundraiser, an annual event coinciding with Family Day in Canada, received support not only from various religious groups but also garnered approval from six city councillors in Mississauga. The organizer scurated a unique program, featuring a 10-year-old boy reciting chapters from the Quran and a 16-year-old girl delivering the translated verses in English. This thoughtful presentation underscored the faith heritage within the Muslim community.
