Let’s Learn Buddhism Together Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Joyful Senior Class

On June 4th, the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted its 2024 Spring wrap-up for the Senior Class in the Temple's Conference Room. Over 30 students participated joyfully in the event-themed "Let's LearnBuddhism Together," featuring thoughtfully designed activities that showcased their accomplishments over the term.

Venerable Chueh Fan, the Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, along with Superintendent Venerable Zhi Guan, Venerable Yong Kang, Venerable Man Long, and Venerable Ru An, the senior class advising monastic, attended the event. Venerable Chueh Fan presented certificates of appreciation to the interest program teachers and she expressed her delight in the senior class's successful completion of its second term, emphasizing the important role of elders in Buddhism. She highlighted that the life experiences of elders significantly contribute to the monastery, reinforcing the belief that the temple is a community for all. She encouraged everyone to value their connections and share their wisdom with others.

New student Cao Yifan shared her insights, noting that her biggest takeaway from this term was understanding what "Buddha Dharma" means through the teachings of Venerables. She also experienced a sense of tranquillity from the practice of transcribing sutras. Patricia Yeow, an English-speaking student attending forthe second time, expressed her happiness at being part of the Senior Class. She appreciated the care and support from the guiding Venerables and classmates, which provided great warmth and encouragement. She also thanked Venerable Master Hsing Yun for his extensive writings and teachings for Buddhists and resolved to read more.

Chun Keung Fung, the Tai Chi exercise instructor, thanked the temple for its compassionate care and well-organized courses for the elderly. Through participating in the class and learning the Dharma from Venerables, he realized that "where there is Buddha Dharma, there is a way." He also expressed gratitude to the volunteers of the senior Class for their wholehearted dedication and meticulous care. Venerable Ru An expressed appreciation for everyone's participation and the volunteer team's collective effort

The weekly gatherings provide the elderly with opportunities to learn and socialize, creating a platform for mutual exchange and connection. These gatherings not only promote health but also broaden their knowledge, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
