One Stroke at A Time
On August 7, Waterloo Buddha's Light Centre organized a community event called "One Stroke at a Time: Meditative Calligraphy for Stress Relief, Relaxation and More." This was the second event of the Healing Art series. Its objective was to introduce Buddhist life philosophy through teaching Chinese calligraphy; also, paying attention to each stroke is a helpful way to train our meditative concentration. To enhance the artistic level, BLC invited Calligraphy teacher Shaowu Gao to guide the group.
Venerable Master Hsing Yun often encouraged us: "Where there is Dharma, there is a way." During this activity, the participants were guided to practice the breath counting meditation, listened to the story of Venerable Master Hsing Yun - writing the One Stroke Calligraphy by his "heart", and practiced the meditative calligraphy by paying attention to one stroke at a time, learned Dharma through Buddhist terminologies and shared how they experienced the Dharma in daily life. All these learning experiences allow participants to experience that meditative calligraphy not only to put worries aside but also to bring insights. The wisdom of Humanistic Buddhism gives modern people the confidence to face life's challenges.
