The Humanistic Buddhism Reading Association of Toronto held a “Splendid Summer Reading” event at the conference room on June 25th. A total of 52 book enthusiasts from 15 reading groups participated in the event. They studied a selection of “Hsing Yun's Dharma Words” from “The Complete Works of Venerable Master Hsing Yun.” Through reading, discussion, and sharing, the participants learned how to apply the Dharma wisdom from the Master's teachings and cultivate them in daily life.
Betty Young, the facilitator of the Humanistic Buddhism Reading Association of Toronto, stated that the first planned event of this year, “Spring is the Perfect Time for Reading,” did not carry out due to the passing away of the Venerable Master Hsing Yun. The articles from the “Complete Works of Venerable Master Hsing Yun,” is the Dharma relics of the Master. Reading and learning the Master's articles is the best way to commemorate the Venerable Master.
53 participants were divided into six groups. Six articles have been chosen for discussion on cultivating the six sense organs: cultivating the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind respectively. While leisurely enjoying the refreshments, they earnestly discussed the cultivation in daily life according to the Master's teaching in the articles. Each group nominated a representative to give a 5-minute sharing. In the concluding remarks, Venerable Miao Mu emphasized that the “Dharma joy” from reading Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s articles is the most heartwarming. Venerable Miao Mu encouraged everyone to strive towards becoming a “Humanistic Buddhism Speaker” to spread the Dharma joy.
