Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Buddha’s Light Spiritual Care Group continues to host training and learning sessions virtually for its team of volunteers. In order to further prepare the volunteers, an in-person gathering at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Tea House was organized on September 25 for the first time. 14 members participated in the gathering to learn and to strengthen their communication skills and abilities.
Venerable Chueh Fan, the Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto welcomed and offered words of encouragement to the group. She reminded the volunteers that reaching out is the first step of success, we must build connection with others, and benefit the community with the practice of what we have learnt, to achieve and actualize self-perfection in the process of providing service.
Ms. Stephanie Hong, the coordinator of the Spiritual Care Group planned two learning sessions to strengthen the members’ skills to express care and support, and to allow the practice of its Members Creed of the Buddha’s Light, that is “To give confidence, to give hope, to give joy, and to give convenience.” In the hope that all members can fully exert and experience the spirit of “Giving” while providing spiritual care, and the practice of the Dharma, Compassion, Sincerity, and Love to warm and help others.
The members deeply appreciated the learning opportunity and expressed that, such experience encourages a sense of responsibility and mission, it also strengthens the connection and friendship among members.
