On the afternoon of April 14th,2024, the Toronto Buddha's Light Scouts breathed new life into their annual KubKar race competition at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto's dining Hall, marking a joyful return to in-person events in the post-pandemic landscape. The Kub Kar race, organized by age groups, saw spirited participation from Scouts, Cubs, and Beavers, with each group fielding nine cars in both racing and styling competitions.
Excitement filled the air as Scout members, parents, and eager spectators gathered to witness the thrilling event. Before the races commenced, judges scrutinized the artistic designs of the cars,recognizing that winning in design did not guarantee victory in speed. Winners in the artistic designcategory were also contenders in their respective racing divisions.
The racing action unfolded on three tracks,with each car taking its turn under the watchful eyes of Venture volunteers ensuring fairplay by rotating cars across tracks. Followingthree runs, the fastest cars fromeach category faced off to determine the ultimate winners.
As Scouts eagerly watched their woodencreations hurtle down the track, anticipation, nervousness, and excitementfilled the atmosphere. Throughout the event, parents actively participated inthe competition, taking on roles as referees, scorers, and photographers,showcasing the devoted parental involvement that characterizes the Kub Karcompetition.
The event showcased the Scout spirits,creativity and sportsmanship. It served as a heartwarming reunion for thecommunity, reaffirming the resilience and spirit of togetherness in overcomingchallenges.
