On June 16th, the Humanistic Buddhism Reading Association of Toronto held a unique summer reading session at Lake Aquitaine. Led by Betty Young, 35 group members either walked or drove 2.5 kilometers to engage in reading and explore inner wisdom at the park.
Before setting off, the group gathered in the main shrine to pay respects to the Buddha. Venerable Zhi Guan, the Superintendent of Fo Guang Shan Temple ofToronto, praised everyone's dedication to study and expressed her hope that participants would enjoy the beautiful weather. She encouraged them to seize the opportunity to delve into Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teachings and gain a deeper understanding through interaction.
The reading session, themed "Sunshine in the Heart," was organized into Mandarin, Cantonese, and bilingual groups to facilitate experience sharing. The reading materials included "Sunshine in the Heart" from the ninth volume ofthe Master’s A House Full of Gold and Jade, "Finding Happiness" from the fifth volume of Between Ignorance and Enlightenment, and “Life Tastes” from Hsing Yun’s Dharma Words. Upon arrival at thepark, each group found a picnic table under the shade of trees to begin reading and exchanging questions and answers.
After the event, Hongda Wang, attending the reading group for the first time, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying he was filled with positive energy. Tiger Chen, the president of the Da Tzu subchapter, remarked, "In the beautiful natural surroundings, listening to pleasant Humanistic Buddhism songs and relaxing the busy and tense mind, it was especially insightful to feel the wisdom between the lines of the Venerable Master's words." Another attendee, Raymond Tang, noted that sharing and exchanging ideas with book-loving friends while enjoying the pleasure of reading significantly enhanced his understanding of the Buddha’s teachings.
