On Nov 29, FGS Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto jointly organized an online music appreciation night to encourage future participation and to learn more about the songs of the sound of the human world. The organizers invited Jennifer Lee, Conductor of Toronto Buddha’s Light Choir, to share her music expertise with the audience. Jennifer’s deep knowledge of Buddhism coupled with her professional training in music provided the audience with invaluable information on music appreciation and singing techniques of each song. About 100 participants from Canada and USA joined the online event.
The Abbess of FGS Temple of Toronto Venerable Chueh Fan pointed out that music is one of the important tools to propagate Humanistic Buddhism in the future. She thanked Jennifer for her devotion to promoting music and her efforts in continuing to hold choir lessons even during the pandemic. The Abbess encouraged Fo Guang members to connect with the Buddha through music as well as to share the beautiful music with others. She stressed the importance of continuously improving oneself to be of service to others.
The following songs were showcased in the concert: Pilgrimage, morning prayers, I vow, Leaves in the wind, Star and Cloud, Life is But a Dream, To Be Touched Is the Most Beautiful, Flow, Faith and Legacy. Of special interest is the song “Star and Cloud”. It was a new creation by John Lu, a member of the DaJue subchapter. Participants shared that they were grateful for opportunities to learn in the process where they found creativity and self-confidence which added to the positive energy in their lives.
