In a heartwarming gesture to celebrate Mother's Day, the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto English Sub-Chapter and the Children's Dharma Class joined hands to organize 'The Shoebox Project for Women.' The initiative, aimed at fostering compassion and community service, focused on collecting essential items for vulnerable women in community shelters.

On May 5th, Sunday, Scarborough Subchapter I of BLIA Toronto delved into the profound teachings of Mahayana Buddhism with a Cantonese Buddhist lecture titled 'An Introduction to Expedient Means in the Lotus Sutra'. Hosted at the Buddha's Light Centre in Markham, drawing esteemed guests, including Toronto Chapter Director Betty Yong and Subchapter Director May Ho, along with a dedicated gathering of 28 members.

On May 1st, the Buddha’s Light Choir of Toronto hosted its inaugural "Choral Art Fundamentals" lecture, led by conductor Monie Leung. This event, held at the Markham Buddha’s Light Center, aimed to align with government initiatives to support the elderly community and to enhance multicultural musical quality. The lecture began at 7:30 PM and was attended by 40 choir members.

The Toronto 2024 Cloud and Water Dharma Talk Series jointly organized by Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple of Toronto and the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto, featured the second lecture, invited Lay Dharma Lecturer Ms. Winnie Kwong to speak on "The Essence of the Vimalakriti Sutra: Pure Land in the Human Realm." On April 28th, at Toronto FGS. Kwong shared insights from Vimalakirti, a lay disciple of the Buddha, whose words and deeds serve as a model for lay practitioners. Utilizing various sutra passages, she elucidated that the Pure Land in the Human Realm is characterized by a pure mind, a blend of small and big worlds, immeasurable conveniences, and The Dharma Gate of Non-Duality, benefiting over 120 attendees.

On the afternoon of April 14th, 2024, the Toronto Buddha's Light Scouts breathed new life into their annual Kub Kar race competition at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto's dining Hall, marking a joyful return to in-person events in the post-pandemic landscape. The Kub Kar race, organized by age groups, saw spirited participation from Scouts, Cubs, and Beavers, with each group fielding nine cars in both racing and styling competitions.

The Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple of Toronto and the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter initiated the "2024 Cloud and Water Dharma Talk Series" on April 14th, captivating around 120 attendees with a lecture titled " Blossoms with Insights from Floral Wisdom" by Mrs. Sue Hutchison, BLIA Lay Dharma Teacher. She shared insights on integrating the aesthetics of Buddha-Dharma into daily life through the art of flower arrangement, symbolizing Buddhist cultivation.
