3 Acts of Goodness Goes Hand-in-Hand With the Food Drive

Think good thoughts, say good words and do good deeds. When reflecting on the past two weeks of 6th Meadowvale Venture Company's annual food drive, I am proud to say that I have seen countless examples of these 3 Acts of Goodness from our members and the Fo Guan Shang community throughout this successful event.

Toronto’s Mississauga subchapter 1 & 2 “Annual General Meeting”

On November 19, BLIA Toronto Mississauga Subchapter 1 & 2 cohosted their Annual General Meeting at the Five Contemplations Hall in the temple. Over 160 people attended the event. Venerable Chueh Fan, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, together with Venerable Ru Xing, Advising Venerable of the subchapters and Mabel Lam, the President of BLIA Toronto Chapter also attended the event.

Peel District Interfaith Annual Conference Held at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto

Interfaith Council of Peel, Ontario, Canada (referred as ICP), held their 2022 Annual Members Meeting in Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple ofToronto on November 16th. This meeting was conducted offline and online with discussions on the current development trends of various religions and social phenomena after the epidemic. A total of 15 religious groups and associations attended. Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie expressed her affirmation of ICP's work in the video.

BLIA Toronto Chapter Successfully Completed the Subchapters Committee Elections with the Electronic Voting System.

The 2023-2024 Subchapters Committee Elections of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter were held on November 5th, 6th, and 12th, at Markham, Toronto, and Waterloo locations respectively. Nineteen Subchapters’ Committees were elected. The Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Subchapters were also subsequently elected by the committee members.

“Dream Big, Live Simply” - Nurturing Mindfulness and Inner Peace

On a brisk autumn morning on the 12th of November, at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto attendees were gathering to take part in a one-day meditation retreat. After registration and ensuring Covid protocols were followed, attendees and facilitators gathered in the conference room where they were greeted by Venerable RuAn who would lead the retreat.

Practice the Three Acts of Goodness, Do Not Play Tricks

Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple of Toronto Chinese School and Buddha’s Light Children Dharma Class jointly hosted a children’s Halloween event on October 30th.The theme of the event was “Practice the Three Acts of Goodness; Do not play tricks!” with the intention of teaching students to practice the Three Acts of Goodness and not to play tricks on people to inspire the truth, goodness, and beauty of human nature. On that day, 51 children dressed in their favourite costumes and gathered in the Five Contemplations Hall. They paraded through the Buddha’s Light Bookstore, Water Drop Teahouse, Library, and Main Shrine to ask for candies.

Pure Mind is the Pure Land Tea Meditation at the Toronto Markham Centre

On July 9th, Venerable Chueh Fan, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, led the teachers and students from the Fo Guang Shan Tsung Lin University to host a tea and meditation event at the Buddha’s Light Center in Markham. Under the guidance of Venerable Zhi Nian, the teacher of the Tsung Lin University English Buddhist Department, the group of seven facilitated a "Tea and Ch’an are of One Taste" session. Nearly 60 devotees participated, engaging in the experience, sharing insights on Dharma, discussing the principles of Humanistic Buddhism, and emphasizing the importance of monastic education.

Empowering Youth with Humanistic Buddhism: Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Concludes First English Youth Temple Retreat

On July 7, the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto has successfully concluded its inaugural English Youth Temple Retreat, a transformative three-day, two-night event that welcomed 32 young participants. The retreat culminated in a closing ceremony and the "Sound of Chan and Joy of Dharma" event held in the temple's outdoor Chan garden, drawing nearly 120 attendees, including members of the Buddha’s Light Choir and devotees, eager to celebrate the youths' growth and achievements.

Toronto Buddha’s Light Choir Spreads Joy and Harmony Through Music

On July 6th, the Buddha’s Light Choir of Toronto performed at the Overseas Chinese Culture and Art Festival, held at the Living Arts Centre, the largest opera house in Mississauga. Their performance, featuring songs from "Sounds of the Human World," aimed to spread joy and harmony and to foster friendships through music. Fourteen choirs with nearly 400 members from the Greater Toronto Area, including Hamilton, Guelph, Halton, and Mississauga, delivered outstanding performances.

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Celebrates Canada Day with Prayer and Meditation

On July 1st, the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted a special "Canada Day Prayer and Meditation" event to mark Canada Day. This event, inspired by the principle of "localization of temples" advocated by founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun, aimed to bless the people of Canada, provide spiritual tranquillity, and uplift participants' aspirations.

Embracing Learning with Joy: FGS Toronto Three Acts of Goodness Children's Summer Camp

From June 29th to July 1st, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted the 2024 Three Acts of Goodness Children's Summer Camp, welcoming 24 children aged 7 to 12. Venerable Chueh Fan, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, led the monastic community, joined by Mabel Lam, President of the BLIA Toronto Chapter, Deputy Youth Leader Stacey Tran, and executives from the BLIA Youth Adult Division (YAD), along with over 70 participants including children, parents, and guardians.
