Toronto Buddhist Community Celebrates International Buddhist Day

On the evening of April 10th, 2024, Venerable Chueh Fan, the Abbess of the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, along with Ven. Ru Zhong, Ven. Zhi Guan and eight representatives of the temple attended the "International Buddhist Day Celebration" held at the West End Buddhist Temple in Mississauga. Nearly a hundred representatives from various Buddhist organizations and government officials from the Greater Toronto Area participated in the event, expressing the sincere wish of Canadian Buddhists for the United Nations to officially recognize April 8th as "International Buddhist Day," as proposed by The World Buddhist Summit.

Setting Out on the Path of Discovery: Toronto Youth Commence Transformative Journey through Youth Temple Retreat

At the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, the 2024 Youth Retreat was held from March 29th to 31st, drawing 29 young individuals eager to immerse themselves in the teachings and lifestyle of Humanistic Buddhism. This initiative aimed to guide participants on a transformative journey of self-discovery and spiritual exploration.

BLIA Toronto Chapter's Da Tzu 2 Subchapter Hosts "Good to Have You Members Gathering"

Gathering" On the afternoon of March 31st, the Da Tzu 2 Subchapter of the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter organized a special event at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. The "Good to Have You Members Gathering" aimed to express gratitude to senior members for their continuous support to Fo Guang Shan and BLIA, while also warmly welcoming new members to the subchapter. The event was graced by the presence of Monastic Advisor Ven. Man Long and BLIAToronto Chapter director Sue Hutchison, along with over 30 members in attendance.

Toronto Educational Talk on Psychological Counseling: Nurturing Children with Love and Hope

On March 23rd, the Social Education Department of FGS Temple of Toronto and BLIA Da Tzu Subchapter organized a public lecture titled "Giving Children Love and Hope" at FGS Temple of Toronto. The talk was conducted by a registered social worker and psychological counsellor Ms. Zhihong Chen, and attracted 80 Fo Guang members, both in-person and online.

BLIA Toronto Scarborough subchapters Gathering, embracing the Four Givings through Sutra Transcription

BLIA Toronto Scarborough First and Second Subchapters hosted a joint Sutra Transcription event at Markham Buddha’s Light Centre on March 24th, 2024, offering an opportunity of cultivation for members who were unable to attend the Dharma Service at the FGS Temple of Toronto in the morning due to travel challenges. Many members began their day with the Great Compassion Repentance Dharma Service at the temple before rushing back to partake in the Sutra Transcription session, cherishing this chance to practice together. In total, 52 members and friends participated.

BLIA Mississauga 1 Subchapter Hosts Vegetarian Health Diet Workshop Promotes Vege Plan A

The Mississauga subchapter 1 of the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) organized a "Vegetarian Health Diet" Workshop at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto on March 23rd. The workshop aimed to deepen members' understanding of a vegetarian healthy diet and promote the "Vege Plan A." Subchapter President Bonnie Huang expressed gratitude to Venerable Yung Kang for providing guidance despite her busy schedule, emphasizing the importance of nutritious eating and Buddhist principles in maintaining health.

Toronto Humanistic Buddhism Reading Association Summer Reading at Lake Aquitaine

On June 16th, the Humanistic Buddhism Reading Association of Toronto held a unique summer reading session at Lake Aquitaine. Led by Betty Young, 35 group members either walked or drove 2.5 kilometers to engage in reading and explore inner wisdom at the park.

FGS and BLIA Toronto Commit to Coexistence and Co-prosperity: 2024 World Religion Prayers for Peace and Buddha’s Light Vegetarian Food Fair

June 9th, the "2024 World Religion Prayers for Peace and Buddha’s Light Vegetarian Food Fair," co-hosted by Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter, unfolded with great fanfare at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. The event, which brought together representatives from various religions to offer joint prayers for peace in Canada and worldwide, was eagerly anticipated by the community. With over a thousand attendees, the event saw enthusiastic participation from government representatives at all three levels, the police, various faith leaders, community organizations, and numerous community members.

On June 4th, the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted its 2024 Spring wrap-up for the Senior Class in the Temple's Conference Room. Over 30 students participated joyfully in the event-themed "Let's Learn Buddhism Together," featuring thoughtfully designed activities that showcased their accomplishments over the term.

2024 FGS Toronto Press Conference Promoting World Peace and Supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals

The "2024 World Religion Prayers for Peace and Buddha’s Light Vegetarian Food Fair," jointly organized by the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter scheduled for June 9th at the Fo Guang Shan Temple in Mississauga. The event was officially unveiled at a press conference held on May 21st at the Buddha’s Light Center in Markham.

BLIA Toronto Mississauga Subchapters Hold Earth Day Environmental Action

Due to unseasonably cold weather on April 22, the 'Earth Day Environmental Action' event organized by the BLIA Toronto Mississauga 1, 2, 3, and 4 subchapters was rescheduled to May 18. On the new date, 42 members and their families gathered at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. Despite recent rain and overcast skies, participants remained committed to beautifying the temple's surroundings.
