Spring Program Getting Started With Virtual Temple Tour

On February 27, Toronto Buddha’s Light Children Dharma Class and Youth Dharma Class co-hosted the first-ever Virtual Temple Tour. Nearly 40 children, teenagers, and teachers from Toronto, Canada and Detroit, USA, participated.

What Do We Know About Generation Z

The coronavirus pandemic has forced a host of changes and impacts on propagating the Dharma and the development of Humanistic Buddhism. On February 25, a special talk on “What Do We Know about Generation Z?" was jointly hosted by Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto Chapter. The talk invited Venerable Miao Guang, the Deputy Chancellor of Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism, to share her insights on this subject.

2022 BLIA Affairs Executive Seminar

On February 20, the “2022 BLIA Affairs Executive Seminar” was held by the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) World Headquarters for five BLIA Chapters in Canada, USA and Portugal. Including BLIA Toronto, BLIA Montreal, BLIA Colorado, BLIA Detroit, and BLIA Lisbon.

2022 Celebrate Lantern Festival in the Buddha’s Light

On February 19, FGS Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto Chapter hosted the “2022 Celebrate Lantern Festival in the Buddha’s Light” online. More than 130 Fo Guang families participated in the lantern festival. Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day of the first month in the Lunar Calendar. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

2022 Offerings to Buddhas and Celestial Guardians

"2022 Offerings to Buddhas & Celestial Guardians Dharma Service" was jointly held at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto by the four temples in Eastern Canada and USA - Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Detroit (Buddha's Light Center).More than 1,200 people participated online to carry out the prostrate etiquette to thank the compassionate heavenly blessings and protection of the Triple Gem and Dharma protectors.

The Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo Welcomes the Year of Tiger

Welcoming the Year of Tiger, the Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo opened for the public on the first to the fifth day of Chinese New Year (Feb 1 - 5). Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo has been temporarily closed for two years. To reopen the Centre for everyone to visit, pay homage to the Buddha, and offer the New Year’s first incense, Venerable RuXing along with the joint effort by BLIA Waterloo Subchapter president Grace Wang and members, spending a few days in preparation. Including clearing and decorating the indoor and outdoor areas, and shoveling snow in cold weather at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Toronto Three Acts of Goodness Smart Kids Following the Footsteps of Venerable Master Hsing Yun

From August 7th to 12th, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple of Toronto hosted a six-days Children Summer Creative Workshop. The program was scheduled with a wide range of activities for 24 participants aged 6 to 11. The spirit of the Three Acts of Goodness was delivered to the children through stories and creative art projects. Lessons on the Dharma and wisdom words, which the founder of Fo Guang Shan, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, so finely embodied in his lifetime, allowed the kids to learn the right view of “Never Forget One’s Initial Aspirations” and facing challenges with courage.

The Wonders of Oneness in Diversity

On August 5th, the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held a Bring and Share Event for BLIA members from Malaysia and Singapore. Venerable Chueh Fan, the Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, Mabel Lam, the president of BLIA Toronto Chapter, as well as Venerables, Vice Presidents were among the attendees.

“Truthful, Virtuous, Beautiful” Fo Guang Shan Toronto News Writing Workshop

In an effort to cultivate more advocates for Fo Guang News, the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, in collaboration with the BLIA Toronto Chapter, hosted a two-day "Truthful, Virtuous, Beautiful News Writing Workshop" on July 23rd and July 30th. The workshop was led by Tracy Liu, the head of Fo Guang Shan Toronto's media team.

2023 Taking Refuge In The Triple Gem Ceremony

On the morning of July 9th, 2023, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held the "Lotus Sutra's Universal Gate Chapter Dharma Service and the Taking Refuge in the Triple Gem Ceremony." Nearly 150 people witnessed the Taking Refuge Ceremony, where 53 participants took refuge in the Triple Gem and formally became Buddhists. Among the participants, half were young people under the age of 30. The ceremony was simultaneously translated into English and Cantonese for participants who needed interpretation.

Toronto Buddha’s Light Choir Performance Dedicated to the Memory of Venerable Master

After several months of consistent practice and rehearsals, the Buddha’s Light Choir of Toronto participated in the 33rd Overseas Chinese Culture & Art Festival Choir Observation Concert held at the Living Arts Center in Mississauga on July 9th, 2023.
