What Do We Know About Generation Z

The coronavirus pandemic has forced a host of changes and impacts on propagating the Dharma and the development of Humanistic Buddhism. On February 25, a special talk on “What Do We Know about Generation Z?" was jointly hosted by Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto Chapter. The talk invited Venerable Miao Guang, the Deputy Chancellor of Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism, to share her insights on this subject.

2022 Celebrate Lantern Festival in the Buddha’s Light

On February 19, FGS Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto Chapter hosted the “2022 Celebrate Lantern Festival in the Buddha’s Light” online. More than 130 Fo Guang families participated in the lantern festival. Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day of the first month in the Lunar Calendar. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

2022 Offerings to Buddhas and Celestial Guardians

"2022 Offerings to Buddhas & Celestial Guardians Dharma Service" was jointly held at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto by the four temples in Eastern Canada and USA - Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Detroit (Buddha's Light Center).More than 1,200 people participated online to carry out the prostrate etiquette to thank the compassionate heavenly blessings and protection of the Triple Gem and Dharma protectors.

The Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo Welcomes the Year of Tiger

Welcoming the Year of Tiger, the Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo opened for the public on the first to the fifth day of Chinese New Year (Feb 1 - 5). Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo has been temporarily closed for two years. To reopen the Centre for everyone to visit, pay homage to the Buddha, and offer the New Year’s first incense, Venerable RuXing along with the joint effort by BLIA Waterloo Subchapter president Grace Wang and members, spending a few days in preparation. Including clearing and decorating the indoor and outdoor areas, and shoveling snow in cold weather at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Celebrating the Year of the Tiger: Special Arrangements for All to Visit the Temple

With the support and understanding of the multitude, the online temple visit booking system is operating smoothly, and in a short time, reservations appeared to be fully booked for the Chinese New Year period. Considering there are people who could not reserve a temple visit appointment, the temple has arranged special outdoor decorations, such as "Blessing Wheel" and "Guan Yin Bodhisattva Shrine," located in the front and the backyard of the temple respectively. Everyone can come and pay homage to the Buddha, offering New Year's Incense, and making New Year's wishes even though they have not made an appointment.

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Promotes Humanistic Buddhism at Canada’s Largest Street Book Festival

On September 28-29, the 35th annual Word on The Street Toronto, Canada’s largest free street book festival, took place at Queen's Park in downtown Toronto. Among the many participants, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, along with volunteers from the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) English Subchapter, presented the teachings of Humanistic Buddhism. Led by Wilson Yau, the localization team leader, the group showcased books authored by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, published by American Buddha’s Light Publications.

BLIA Canada Choirs Join the Buddha's Light Cup Competition with Gratitude and Determination

On September 16, the Canada Choirs of the North American Buddha’s Light, led by Venerable Chueh Fan, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, and guided by Venerable Ru Zhong, participated in the inaugural Buddha’s Light Cup Choir Competition in Melaka, Malaysia. The competition took place at the Encore Melaka National Theatre, bringing together 17 choirs from 9 countries, with over 900 participants in attendance.

BLIA YAD Toronto Welcomes New Members: Embracing Coexistence and Co-Prosperity

On September 15, the Young Adult Division (YAD) of Toronto, part of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA), hosted a vibrant welcome event at Fo Guang Shan Temple Toronto. The gathering, titled “Coexistence and Co-Prosperity Between Buddhism and Youth”, was a celebration of past activities and an introduction to new members. Under the guidance of Venerable Zhi Guan, the temple’s superintendent and youth advisor, along with YAD Vice President Stacey Tran and other youth leaders, the day was filled with engaging activities that fostered community spirit and connection.

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Participates in Peel Region Community Crime Awareness Day

The 2024 Peel Region Community Crime Awareness Day was held on September14th in Mississauga’s Chinatown, marking its debut at this location. VenerableZhi Guan, superintendent of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, and BLIA Toronto Chapter Advisor Ken Choi attended the event, alongside notable figures such asMississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, as well as officials from the Peel Regional Police and Fire Department.

Toronto Buddha’s Light Members Embraced The Vimalakirti Sutra in World Café Book Club

On the warm and sunny morning of September 1st, over 70 book enthusiasts gathered at the Main Shrine of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto to participate in a World Café book club. Divided into ten groups, participants engaged in discussions in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, focusing on the works of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order, Cultivating Joy in the Human World: The Vimalakirti Sutra. To create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, the temple provided coffee and snacks, and copies of the Master’s works for attendees to take home were displayed on each table, building affinity and extending the joy and insights gained from the session.
