June 9th, the "2024 World Religion Prayers for Peace and Buddha’s Light Vegetarian Food Fair," co-hosted by Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter, unfolded with great fanfare at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. The event, which brought together representatives from various religions to offer joint prayers for peace in Canada and worldwide, was eagerly anticipated by the community. With over a thousand attendees, the event saw enthusiastic participation from government representatives at all three levels, the police, various faith leaders, community organizations, and numerous community members.

The "2024 World Religion Prayers for Peace and Buddha’s Light Vegetarian Food Fair," jointly organized by the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter scheduled for June 9th at the Fo Guang Shan Temple in Mississauga. The event was officially unveiled at a press conference held on May 21st at the Buddha’s Light Center in Markham.

BLIA Toronto Mississauga Subchapters Hold Earth Day Environmental Action

Due to unseasonably cold weather on April 22, the 'Earth Day Environmental Action' event organized by the BLIA Toronto Mississauga 1, 2, 3, and 4 subchapters was rescheduled to May 18. On the new date, 42 members and their families gathered at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. Despite recent rain and overcast skies, participants remained committed to beautifying the temple's surroundings.

Toronto Buddha’s Light Spiritual Care Group Celebrates Buddha’s Birthday with Nursing Home Residents

Every year in May, Buddhists worldwide celebrate Buddha’s birthday. This year, the Toronto Buddha’s Light Spiritual Care Group marked the occasion with a special “Buddha’s Birthday Celebration and Bathing the Buddha” event during their monthly visits to three nursing homes in Scarborough: Tendercare Nursing Home, Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centre, and Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care.

Toronto Fo Guang People Participate in Global Sutra Transcription to Mark Fo Guang Shan’s 58th Anniversary

The Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto joined the Fo Guang Shan Global Simultaneous Sutra Transcription event to commemorate the 58th anniversary of Fo Guang Shan's founding. A total of 158 Toronto Fo Guang members and BLIA members gathered in person at the temple’s Main Shrine, while 16 members of the BLIA Detroit Chapter in the USA joined via Zoom.

Creative Lantern Painting Event: A Family Celebration of New Year Wishes at Fo Guang Shan Toronto

In support of Fo Guang Shan’s 2025 Lunar New Year Lantern Painting Competition and Exhibition, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted a festive lantern painting event for children and youth on October 27. More than 120 participants of all ages—including children from English Dharma class, Chinese school students, Scouts, Dragon and Lion Dance teams, youth groups, and parents—gathered across two vibrant sessions to celebrate.

Fo Guang Shan Toronto Reception Volunteers Strengthen Skillful Means and Wisdom in Service

On October 20, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held a comprehensive training seminar for its reception volunteers, aimed at enhancing skillful service through compassion and wisdom. A total of 31 volunteers from the temple, Markham Buddha’s Light Centre, and Waterloo Buddha’s Light Centre participated, including several new members. The seminar provided training in key areas such as reception etiquette, temple tours, tea-serving demonstrations, and ceremonial procedures, helping volunteers embody the principles of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Four Givings—with a special focus on giving joy and confidence to others.

Fo Guang Shan Toronto Devotees Celebrate “Bring Home the Fo Guang Big Buddha” Ceremony with Joyful Reverence

On October 20, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted the “Bringing Home the Fo Guang Big Buddha” ceremony following the Great Compassion Repentance Service, commemorating Guanyin Bodhisattva’s renunciation. Fourteen devotees gathered before the Buddha with sincere reverence, they formally registered to bring a Fo Guang Buddha statue into their homes. Venerable Chueh Fan offered a Dharma talk highlighting the importance of this meaningful moment, encouraging participants to welcome the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion into their daily lives.

Fo Guang Shan Toronto Youth Commit to Self-Awareness and Buddhist Practice

On October 19, the inaugural session of the Fo Guang Shan Toronto Youth Academy opened with an inspiring ceremony at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. Twelve young participants from Canada, China, Taiwan, and India gathered to start on a journey of self-discovery through Humanistic Buddhism. The group includes university students and working professionals such as doctors, engineers, programmers, and managers, with an average age of 25.

University of Toronto Museum Studies Students Explore the Depths of Buddhist Art and Culture at Fo Guang Shan Temple

On October 15, a group of 25 students from the University of Toronto Mississauga's Museum Studies program, led by Professor Li Lan, visited the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto as part of their course curriculum. The visit aimed to enhance their understanding of Buddhist architecture, art, and culture while fostering intercultural exchange. It also highlighted the spirit of Venerable Master Hsing Yun in promoting Buddhism through art in modern society.
